In our Barber Stories series, we have seen a few barbers become pros in different ways. One thing in common with most of the new generation is that they see social media as fundamental in creating a platform for themselves. For the older generation, or the old school, it was about focusing on the customer, the experience, and quality. While the new guys help create the image of barbering and the barbershops culture on social media which (among other reasons) made it popular, the old guys enforced the tradition and culture in the shop, laying the foundation for the success of the new generation by passing this knowledge onto them.
Rusty became a barber at an early age after leaving school and following the traditional apprenticeship path. While he doesn’t look it, he has been barbering for 23 years. He has probably forgotten more than the newer barbers have learned. Rusty and, Cut Throat co-owner, Jimmy recently opened a shop together in Ibiza so if you find yourself on the party island and have Instagram open, check out Good Vibes Only Barbershop. Apparently, you can teach an old dog new tricks. Check out the video below remember that if you do something you love, success will come.
