Our webshop focuses on making available the artwork and apparel of some of the brands that we have covered in our webseries. The reason we initially decided to make videos of these local creatives is because we felt they had an interesting story to tell and we wanted to give them a voice.
Why, you might ask. It’s pretty simple. As the world becomes more global and products from all around the world become available to us at the click on a button, we start to lose our cultural identities and become sheeple just following the latest hype. It’s time to reclaim our urban cultural identities back and support the local creatives that make it.
For instance, Saša Ostoja is one of Amsterdam’s biggest talents. Saša is an illustrator whose work has been portrayed by Volkskrant Magazine, Red Light Radio, VICE, and was even animated for two music videos for Faberyayo x Tom Trago.
Faberyayo x Tom Trago – Casualties of a Vossenjacht
Faberyayo x Tom Trago – Diep in het Notenwoud
Saša style of illustrations are playful and naïvely drawn animal characters in different situations is far from childish. Inspired by the likes of early Disney’s Steamboat Willy animations, it’s clear from his work that he has a vast imagination and loves to give you a ‘real’ message while cloaking it with playful illustrations. He says ‘edgy’, we say ‘unexpected dark undertones’. For example, his four-piece series titled “Crocodile Shoes” which is available in the webshop, shows the troubles of hunting, making, buying, and wearing shoes made of cute animals.
He has also created two massive pieces showing the playful and colorful nature of his work.
