The Estate of Dilla is going to release Dilla’s long lost vocal album titled “The Diary.” The album is meant to provide insight into Dilla’s prowess and thought process as a producer during the period when he had forsaken the major label system and he had become creatively fertile in his own way. This period coincided with Dilla classics like “Ruff Draft”, “Jaylib”, and “Donuts.” The album was stalled and eventually shelved as J Dilla moved from Detroit to LA.

The album, “The Diary” was assembled from multi-track masters and two-track mixdowns found in J Dilla’s archives after his death in 2006. “The Diary” features vocal performances from the likes of Snoop Dogg, Frank-N-Dank, Kokane, Bilal, Nottz and Boogie and is set to release on April 15th.

Justin Timberlake was right when he once said that the world needs more Dilla. Listen to “The Diary” introduction below and bask in the glory that is James Yancey, J Dilla’s creative mind.
