The first production of WE SINK we came across was their remix of Jason Burns & Brent Still Life's track "Right Here" back in 2012, which is still a f#cking jam! Now, 4 years later, we rediscovered the Athens-based duo when they dropped their mixtape 'Flame Princess' about two weeks ago. We reached out to them for an interview and they were kind enough to take part. Check it out below!
Yo WE SINK, what’s good? Can you give us a little introduction as to who you are and where you’re from?
Yooo! All good, whatsgood! We are Nick and Dimitris from Athens, Greece.
Explain your sound to us? How would you describe it?
We never have something specific in mind when we make music. An idea might come from a random Adventure Time episode we watched last night, an old school yet fresh af NxWorries beat or even a JRPG music theme. Though, if we really have to give a generic description, we would describe it as contemporary airport music.
What are your musical influences? Any guilty pleasures maybe?
We Sink started literally the day after we first listened to Mount Kimbie’s first EP back in 2009 and they are still one of our main influences, as well as the whole post dubstep scene back then.
Other stuff that have affected us along the way include the new wave of Bass music and R&B and also everything from Justin Bieber since his compilation album 'Journals'. That covers the guilty pleasures part, hah!
Can you tell us a little bit about your production process? What hardware, software and/or instruments do you use and why?
Our production process is quite simple. We open up Ableton Live, start with a basic beat and then write down some chords and build up from there. We are both big fans of sound synthesis so we always start our synth patches from scratch using Massive, Serum or Sylenth1. When we feel likeusing an organic instrument we open up Omnisphere. The only hardware synth we have is the TE OP-1 for it’s extreme awesomeness.
Which artist right now is the one you’re most excited about, that you feel everyone should know about and why?
Anderson Paak. *First Listen* MIND=BLOWN
Which vocalists/MC’s would you love to collaborate with in the future and why?
Kehlani, Syd tha Kid and Jeremih. We are really busy though so we don’t know if we can make it happen lol.
What can we expect from you in the near future?
Currently we are working on a new concept EP that will be out through our own imprint IMBW in the next couple of months.
Any plans of dropping by Amsterdam soon?
No plans at the moment, but we would love to!
