Hailing from Amsterdam, this UK-born MC is the next big thing to come from the Noah's Ark camp. Often found MC'ing over bass-driven trap beats his distinct UK accent is very much appreciated while it's combined with atmospheric as well as various UK-genre sounds (which we like to think it's an ode to his roots). You might know him from his recently released Pigeon EP, or MC'ing at parties like Decoy in Amsterdam - but his refreshing sound is something that we feel deserves to be discovered by more people. So in light of his latest release ("Loquacious II" released today!), we decided to interview him:
Explain your sound to us? How would you describe it?
I’d rather not because I think i’d be selling my art for less than it’s really worth. Have a listen and ask yourself which words you find befitting of my sound. (Weed usually helps too)
Explain where your name comes from? What’s the meaning of it?
Well I was eating a chicken sandwich, (keeping those stereotypes alive of course) and a Pigeon, who was also interested in my sandwich walked up to me. As he pecked away at what might've been his cousin (I’m a rapper not an ethologist) he shook his feathers and unleashed a nasty dust cloud which got me thinking, “Hey, thats a Dusty Pigeon”. I kid you not this is a true story.
What’s the one thing you absolutely love about the music-scene at the moment? That reminds you every time why you chose this profession?
To be honest I’m not very involved with the “music-scene”. I try to keep my focus on my art and the people I love. Theres too much drama going in the “music-scene” if you ask me.
What reminds me of why I love my profession/passion, are the moments like when 2 people in the crowd know my lyrics, or when I get a call with good news from my manager Jules, or when I hear my mum say she’s proud of me for pursuing my dream. I didn’t have any of these things last year so its good to reflect on the things i’ve accomplished this year and work towards the future.
What’s the one thing you’re cringing about at the moment, when it comes to the music-scene? Something that (almost) makes you want to stop?
(Dusty sips his Earl Grey tea and comments on the beautiful lace curtains in the window across the street).
Which of your own productions are your favourite? (and why?)
I don’t have a favourite production. Every track is my favourite until I make another that becomes my favourite, so I don’t hold on them like i used to because I’m always reinventing myself. When/If i ever find one yawl will be the first to know. (Cyber Pinky Promise)
Which artist right now is the one you’re most excited about, that you feel everyone should know about?
Dusty. #NUFFSAID #PGN2
If you could collaborate with anyone world-wide (and resources weren’t an issue), who would it be and why?
Richard David James aka Aphex Twin. Selected Ambient Works 85-92 is in my opinion one of the most advanced collection of compositions I’ve ever heard.
“Ageispolis” (Track 4) has to be my favourite track off the album. If you listen closely two thirds into the track, you can hear what we now know today as the “Trap Hi-Hat”. The music video for "Window Licker" had me shitting myself as a child. It was the production itself that had me shitting myself as an adult (and I loved it). Aphex Twin is a pioneer in electronic music and music as a whole, I know I can learn a lot from someone of his stature. The day we make a track together will be the day I can peacefully die.
What can we expect from you in 2016?
A lot of dope new sounds, produced by Tyrell Limon and myself. I’ve also got a big announcement for next year, but seeing as its still 2015 I’d rather keep that under wraps. You can expect a happier, hungrier, and more home in on Dusty. You’ll be able to hear it too. Thank you for having me and I look forward to blowing you all away next year. PIGEON’S ARE COMING !
