It's difficult to ignore a name like Nymfo when you're talking about the drum & bass scene. Having built a recognisable name for himself by having founded parties like Red Zone and Breek (Eindhoven, the Netherlands), he's time and time again proven himself behind the decks, as well as inside the studio. Also known as Bardo, his music is at the raw and industrial side of drum & bass, which is relentless, and combined with heavy basses. This has never gone unrecognised - he was even a guest at BBC 1 radio, earlier in 2015. Hypes can come and go, but we've always liked Nymfo for sticking to what lies close to him. So, we decided to have a short interview with him:
Explain your sound to us? How would you describe it?
Diversity is the key in my productions, but also in my dj sets. It's all drum and bass off course, but I can go from Liquid to Neurofunk to some very minimal stuff. But in all those subgenres one thing is really important and that's BASS!
Where does the name come from?
People ask me that a lot and hoping for a very kinky answer. So I was 15 years old and was a bedroom dj for a few months and suddenly I had my first 'gig' so I was looking for a dj name. After reading the dictionary for inspiration I saw the meaning of Nymphomania and was giggling and thought that's sick. I told you already I was 15 ? :)
What’s the one thing you absolutely love about the music-scene at the moment? That reminds you every time why you chose this profession?
The fact that it's bringing some many different people together to 1 club, festival or whatever. And all those people have the same passion..
What’s the one thing you’re cringing about at the moment, when it comes to the music-scene? Something that (almost) makes you want to stop?
That it's really easy and simple to become a 'dj' if u have a cool logo, buying social media followers and the Beatport top 100.
Which of your own productions are your favourite? (and why?)
Suddenly VIP! I think that's a good example for diversity. It has got musically parts, but also a really dark bassline!
Which artist right now is the one you’re most excited about, that you feel everyone should know about?
If you could collaborate with anyone world-wide (and resources weren’t an issue), who would it be and why?
What can we expect from you in 2016?
An EP for Spearhead Records and also an EP for Dispatch Recordings. Besides that a new single for Commercial Suicide. And a lot of selfies off course!
