Yet another talented name from the Noah's Ark camp! This time though, a beatmaker. FilosofischeStilte is somehow younger than his beats are mature. With a clear hip hop influence, his music is characterised by deep basses and a surprisingly high energy level (definitely club friendly). Although it sometimes shows signs of trap, his music has more sides to it than just that. You might know him from festivals like Pitch, Down The Rabbit Hole and/or 22fest, or his "Munch Palace Vol. 1" or "Vol. 2" release, but this young beat-gunner shows awesome potential. So, we decided to do an interview with him:
Explain your sound to us? How would you describe it?
I use a lot of synthesisers, so it’s definitely electronic. But I try to keep it fresh. So every once in a while I try something new - and if I find something interesting, I try to apply it to other songs to see what the possibilities are.
Explain where your name comes from? What’s the meaning of it?
I thought of the name 5 years ago (around this time of year). I thought of it because my friend in high school called me “The Philosopher” and my parents always said that I was the philosopher of the family. The "Silence" part comes from the fact that I’m not that much of a talkative guy. The meaning of FilosofischeStilte (Philosophical Silence) still floats.
What’s the one thing you absolutely love about the music-scene at the moment? That reminds you every time why you chose this profession?
Music from friends! I feel privileged when friends send me their stuff that isn't out yet or ask for feedback. For me it is a confirmation that my opinion matters to them and the other way around as well.
What’s the one thing you’re cringing about at the moment, when it comes to the music-scene? Something that (almost) makes you want to stop?
Traveling alone can be pain in the ass sometimes. When you travel by train and the wifi is slow as fuck, or being stuck on a station until 6 in the morning because you missed the last train. Those things wouldn’t be that bad if you had someone to travel with. Which occasionally still happen though hehe.
Which of your own productions are your favourite? (and why?)
“Adjust” because I surprised my self with it. I didn’t expect it to turn out the way it did
“Delusional Tunes” for the same reason because I had a few different versions before the final and those were very different to the final one. I used this one sample that made the track what it is!
Which artist right now is the one you’re most excited about, that you feel everyone should know about?
There is never one artist but if I have to choose one I would go with Holowave. Me and my brother found him on SoundCloud in 2012 and even approached him for a channel we had on youtube. We have been friends since. He has sent me a lot of stuff over the past few years and I really like his point of view on music. He's always looking for new sounds to play and experiment with, while staying true to his personal sound.
If you could collaborate with anyone world-wide (and resources weren’t an issue), who would it be and why?
Mr. Oizo because he almost defines electronic music for me and I think I could learn a lot from him.
What can we expect from you in 2016?
I’m working on a new project for Saturated Records, but you’ll hear more about that later.
