Starting off this week is a Netflix suggestion that gives a glimpse into the crazy world of sneakerheads. Sneakerheadz traces the evolution of the pop culture phenomenon that is sneakers. Sneakers have technically been around in mass-produced form since 1917 but they really took off in 1984 when Michael Jordan endorsed the Nike Air Jordans. This documentary shows how sneakers became the fashion staple we know today and explains where the obsession for some comes from.
Being a sneakerhead is more than just a love of sneakers, it is an obsession to have the dopest, freshest, most limited pair of sneakers possible. It often means camping in line at sneaker releases for hours if not days, it means waking up at three or four in the morning to try to buy the newest sneakers, and it means dedicating massive amounts of time to finding and procuring sneakers that often aren’t even worn.
