We're always scouting SoundCloud for new talent and when we find it, we're more than happy to share it with you. Today we present to you: p-rallel. A 17 year-old (!) London-based musician. He recently dropped his debut EP 'The Soul Trip' and if it's any indication of what he's got in store for us in the future, we wouldn't be surprised if this kid blows up in the near future. Remember, you found out about him on whatsgood. first!
I believe the art is really coming up with the idea yourself and sharing a creative energy with another artist
Yo p-rallel, what’s good? Can you give us a little introduction as to who you are and where you’re from?
I’m a 17 year-old musician from London, UK who creates sound waves to put your mind in a better place and just make you feel good. That's the most ’simplified’ explanation of me that I can give, I can go on for days if you want lmao.
Explain your sound to us? How would you describe it?
Soul + Rnb + Electronic + Psychedelic. I mean, I’m here to communicate with your soul with these vibrations, but at the same time have your body grooving to the track using electronic instruments that may or may not trip you out - depending on the environment you're in. I don’t like to call myself a producer simply because I’m here to do more than make a backing track for an artist.
What are your musical influences?
Life, Weed, Erykah Badu, Madlib, Mndsgn, J Dilla, Jimi Hendrix.
Can you tell us a little bit about your production process? Do you use samples? What hardware, software and/or instruments do you use?
Sampling Era has ended for your boy p-rallel. Fortunately, I’ve progressed in my ability to use the keyboard with chord progressions and melodies. If anything, I get my samples recorded 1st hand by local London creatives. Like on ’The Soul Trip’ EP [out now on Apple Music and Spotify], for the 3rd track "Sweet Living" I hit up a legit guitarist to record a sample for me and he also gave me a little improvisation with it… way better than downloading a sample and cutting it up. Some may say they disagree because it's the art, but I believe the art is really coming up with the idea yourself and sharing a creative energy with another artist. I've recently got hold of a saxophonist who wants to work with me, so I’m a happy kid.
The light on London right now is quite big but we still out here trying to be like the Americans and I’m bored. So I hardly listen to any of it…
Which artist right now is the one you’re most excited about, that you feel everyone should know about?
Elevation/Meditation Posse. And that is Lord Apex, Finn Foxell, Louis Culture and Xav. That's the team and that's all I’m routing for at this moment in time really. I'm not even going to go into it right now, but just remember e/m.
Which vocalists/MC’s would you love to collaborate with in the future?
I was talking to someone about this the other day. I really wanna work with BJ The Chicago Kid, MF Doom and Erkyah Badu. That's a dream.
How would you describe the music scene in London?
Boring, trash and corny. The light on London right now is quite big but we still out here trying to be like the Americans and I’m bored. So I hardly listen to any of it… Shoutout to the SoundCloud community. If anything… shoutout to House of Pharaohs, they my boys and they’re doing big stuff right now.
How important is the city of London for you personally?
Um, I’m like ready to leave if someone is buying a ticket for me. Don’t get me wrong, it's a nice city, but I’m bored lmao. Guess you gotta be away from something for a while to realise how much you love it, but that's not the case at the moment.
A few quick dilemma’s:
Vinyl, CD or digital?
I need to get myself a Vinyl recorder. But the way technology is right now, digital!
Soul, R&B or Hip Hop?
ALL OF THEM! DON'T LET ME PICK, lmao, nah I’m playing… if I gotta pick it's gotta be soul 100%.
Nujabes or Kero One?
Kero who? lol Nujabes.
What can we expect from you in the near future?
Short film, Visuals, YouTube Series of Studio sessions in my studio and some shows, hit me up if you got any dam shows… so down to come out there!
