CHINESE FIRM MAKES RACIST DETERGENT AD

A Chinese ad for a detergent brand features a black man being placed in a washing machine and in the end the detergent works so well that it turns him into a light-skinned Asian man. Let’s be clear that this is racist… but how racist is it? Arguably, and apologies for making generalizations, China has a history of prejudice and discrimination against dark skin but the ad itself was actually ripped from an Italian detergent ad which portrayed the effectiveness of their detergent in the opposite way.

Have a look at both videos, and you decide which is more racist and where that dividing line lie.

Note: this blog post is not meant to provide a particular view point on racism (except that racism is terrible) but more to open a conversation on the subject. Please feel free to comment and lets us know your thoughts on the subject of these ads.
