It’s f*cking crazy, right? We’re still trying to wrap our heads around it. So here’s the breakdown:
The North Face teamed up with Swedish bio-materials company, called Spiber. What does Spiber do? Well, they scientifically-engineer spider silk.
Double mind-f*ck now, because like we all learned at school that spider-silk is stronger than steel, we also learned that humans have never been able to reproduce it! We’ll skip the details (partially because we’re not bio-engineers either), but what Spiber basically did is use the part of the spider’s gene that helps produce this silk, and clone it.
The result? Literally a ‘first-of-its-kind’ infallible, kick-ass looking parka. Here’s a video showing the process:
